Brow Lift Surgery and Procedure

A brow lift aims to raise the eyebrows and reduce frown lines, which are some of the most obvious signs of aging. As the eyebrows droop, the upper eyelid skin starts to “fall” over the eyelid, making the eyes look smaller and tired. A brow lift helps to reverse some of the effects of gravity, but also the wrinkles and forehead lines resulting from muscle overactivity.

Brow lifts can be performed alone or alongside other facial procedures. Botox in the earlier stages can help with forehead lines and, to a certain extent, minor brow droop, but in the long term surgery is best as it looks more natural, especially as eyebrow mobility is maintained.

Until recently, brow lifts were performed with large, so-called ‘Alice band’ incisions in the scalp, but now are undertaken with keyhole surgery, enabling some patients to go home the same day and recover rapidly.

Who could benefit from a brow lift?

Most brow-lift patients are aged between 40 and 60 with effects of aging visible in the upper third of the face. Some patients also have heavy or asymmetrical brows, or with vertical furrows above the nose (the so-called “11” wrinkles). A brow lift makes for a refreshed, more alert, and younger appearance.

A brow lift is a good operation, with minimal complications, and is often the first step into surgery for people seeing the first signs of aging.
